Porsche & BMW destroyed in fiery Nurburgring crash caught on video

A high-speed crash between a Porsche GT3 RS and BMW M2 Competition at the Nürburgring has gone viral after the dramatic footage was captured from multiple angles and shared across social media. Both drivers survived.

The incident took place on July 5, during a Touristfahrten session, where members of the public can pay to drive the 12.9-mile Nordschleife in their own vehicles. These sessions are open to all drivers and vehicles, creating a disparity in speed and experience.

In the now widely circulated video, the Porsche is seen rapidly gaining on the slower-moving, British-registered BMW in a narrow section of the track. As the Porsche attempts to overtake on a slight curve, the BMW appears to shift across its path, triggering a violent collision.

The contact sends the Porsche into the barriers before it’s struck again by the BMW, resulting in a fireball and catastrophic damage to both vehicles. Debris was scattered across the track, with a front suspension upright from the Porsche found over 30 meters away.

Both drivers reportedly survived the crash without life-threatening injuries, but their cars were left unrecognizable.

Due to the Nürburgring’s unique status as a toll road, standard insurance policies typically exclude coverage, meaning both drivers could be liable for the full cost of repairs or replacements. They also face additional charges for damage to the Armco barriers.

Reactions online have been divided, with some blaming the BMW driver for cutting into the Porsche’s line, while others argue the Porsche driver was overly aggressive during a non-competitive public session.

“Yes the BMW shouldn’t have moved left,” one commenter on the Nurburgring subreddit said, “but anyone who thinks the GT3RS doesn’t share blame and a decent part of it for racing and passing there on [Touristfahrten] is also part of the problem.”
