Twitch star Pokimane had a biting reply for critical commenters bringing up her age after she posted a silly selfie online.
Imane ‘Pokimane‘ Anys is the most-followed woman on Twitch and a massively popular influencer in general, best known for playing online games with friends to the tune of millions of combined followers.
With this in mind, it’s not unusual when one of her posts goes viral… but she was surprised that a goofy selfie she’d posted on X sparked a wave of negative comments about her.
The photo in question, humorously captioned “angy,” focused on Pokimane’s forehead and was clearly meant to poke fun at herself — but a quick look at the replies shows a tidal wave of criticism specifically focusing on her age.
“30 years old, by the way,” reads one comment.
“Grown-ass woman saying ‘angy ‘ by the way,” said another, alongside a screenshot from a Google search that showed her age.
“Bro’s pushing 40,” another said.
Pokimane hits back at “weirdos” criticizing her age over selfie
Pokimane, who is 28 years old at the time of publication, spoke out about these remarks in a follow-up post the next day, putting the “weirdos” bringing up her age on blast.
“I got a weird influx of weirdos commenting on my age lol, to be honest I find it so dumb,” she wrote. “At 28 I’m the happiest, richest, most knowledgeable and self assured I’ve ever been, and that only becomes more true with every year that passes.”
On top of this, Anys used the situation to encourage other women who might be watching the conversation unfold, assuring them that their age has no bearing on their worth as people.
“Although I don’t care about the comments, I do worry about the impact it has on other girls and women who see this type of harassment, and to them, I want to reassure you that life only gets better. Growing older will not make you miserable, but living your life trying to appease random shitty people definitely will!”
Several high-profile streamers left words of encouragement for Pokimane, including Twitch star QTCinderella, who joked, “I, too, am not old and very rich also.”
Famous cosplayer Jessica Nigri also chimed in, saying, “I’m 34 and they started making these comments at 27. The more they say it the easier it gets. I am being honed like a blade of resistance. The more they say ‘stop,’ the more this grandma is gunna keep going.”
Pokimane is far from the only female streamer to get hit with negative comments about her age; in 2024, fellow influencer Valkyrae got called “expired” after turning 32 — something she hit back at in a witty reply, making fun of the situation.
