Popular Twitch streamer Pokimane shared her frustrations about the challenges of filming in Los Angeles, after a horrible shopping stream experience.
During an episode of her Sweet n Sour podcast with LilyPichu, Pokimane recounted a disheartening experience while trying to create content for a shopping stream with Wisdom Kaye, leading her to question her future in the city.
The Twitch star was excited to collaborate with Kaye, describing him as “an incredible short-form content creator” and “precious cargo” she couldn’t wait to work with.
She went above and beyond to ensure the stream’s success, hiring private security, a chauffeur, and a filming team. Unfortunately, technical issues and unexpected roadblocks from designer stores derailed her plans.
“We had three stores booked that day that allowed us to come in. Two of them canceled at the last minute,” she explained. One cancellation was due to a corporate decision, while another occurred when a group of rappers, including Playboi Carti, arrived at the store, prompting it to close for them instead.
Pokimane’s team tried to pivot by visiting other nearby stores, but they were met with resistance. She described the experience as a nightmare of legalities and constant rejection.
“You take three feet three steps into the store with a camera, they start just crashing out on you. ‘Do you have a permit to film here?’ and ‘Do you have a license?’” she said. Despite her efforts to clarify that the filming was non-commercial, the responses were consistently negative.

One store manager’s rude behavior particularly stood out. “He started lowkey yelling at us. The tone was really unpleasant and mean and weird and fake, like LA fake, all at the same time.
“I’m like, it’s almost impressive that you’ve hit all those notes,” the 28-year-old said, noting they dismissed her team’s prior emails and provided a different contact only after denying them access.
Pokimane admitted it made her feel like LA was no longer conducive to her content creation. “It just made me feel like there’s no more content left in LA. I’ve got to go,” she said, expressing her disappointment with the city’s strict filming culture.
This isn’t the first time Pokimane has voiced her frustrations with LA. Back in 2020, the streamer shared that she felt like she didn’t “belong” in the city, saying that she’d feel more at home in Canada.
