Pokemon’s Rachael Lillis dies at 46 as voice of Misty and Jessie remembered by co-star for her ‘extraordinary talent’

Rachael Lillis has died at age 46

RACHAEL Lillis, the iconic voice behind Pokémon characters Misty and Jessie, has died after a battle with breast cancer.

The star’s death was confirmed by Veronica Taylor, who was the original voice of the beloved show’s main character Ash Ketchum.

“We all know Rachael Lillis from the many wonderful roles she played,” Veronica shared in a letter.

“She filled our Saturday mornings and before/after school hours with her beautiful voice, her terrific comic timing, and her remarkable acting skills,” she added.

She went on to remember Rachael as an “extraordinary talent,” as well as a “bright light that shone through her voice whether speaking or singing.”

The actress also paid tribute to Rachael for her “many animated roles she played,” which she labeled “iconic performances.”

“Rachael was so thankful for all the generous love and support that was given to her as she battled with cancer. It truly made a positive difference,” Veronica said.

“Her family also wishes to thank you as they take this time to grieve privately. A memorial is being planned for a future date.”

Fans shared their condolences to Rachael’s family and friends as well as their sadness at hearing the heartbreaking news.

“Goodbye and thank you for a childhood of memories, Rachael Lillis,” wrote one fan.

“It’s unfortunate… Sorry for your loss. Giving my condolences to the affected family and friends,” commented another.

A third wrote, “I’m so very sorry for your loss, Veronica. I never got to meet her, but I know her work well. She was incredibly talented.

“Sending you and yours all the love to get through this difficult time.”

“My condolences to you Veronica and Eric. Forever in our hearts. I’m crushed,” added a fourth.

Veronica spoke further about Rachael in the tribute post’s comment section. writing, “I was lucky enough to know Rachael as a friend. She had unlimited kindness and compassion, even until the very end.

“She had a great sense of humor, was wonderful to be with, incredibly intelligent, and had such a memory. She worked hard and cared deeply.”

“I am not sure how this very dark void will be filled now that her light no longer shines in it,” she continued.

“Like the shooting stars in the Perseids, Rachael was a magnificent wonder and truly special. She burned bright and vanished too soon.

“She will live on in our memories for eternity.”

PROLIFIC CAREER

Rachael began working professionally in 1997 after studying in Boston and New York City.

Though trained on the stage, she pursued voice-over work and contributed her talents to video games, audiobooks, and anime.

Rachael had over 120 acting credits throughout her 20-plus-year career.

Those voice work credits include Pokemon, Hunter x Hunter, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Berserk, Sonic X, and Super Smash Bros. among other notable works.
