Pizza Hut responds after viral video shows restautant storing food supplies in bathroom

Pizza Hut has issued a statement after a video showing a restaurant keeping food supplies in a bathroom went viral on social media.

A Pizza Hut in Ajax, Ontario near Toronto made waves online for all the wrong reasons when a customer made a startling discovery in the washroom.

Originally posted by ‘cee.beexo’ on TikTok, the woman revealed she entered the store to pick up a pie and had to use the washroom.

“Tell me this is not disgusting,” she said, showing off numerous kitchen supplies, including pizza boxes and dip containers by the toilet. “Why are there food supplies in the washroom where the f**king toilet is?”

The video racked up over 1M views and was shared across social media sites with users demanding Pizza Hut take action.

“Call public health and report it. Instant inspection. This is not acceptable,” one user demanded.

Pizza Hut says it’s taking bathroom video “seriously”

On X, Ontario-based lawyer and journalist Caryma Sa’d shared the viral video with her viewers, prompting a response by Pizza Hut.

“Thank you for bringing this to our attention,” the chain’s Canadian-based account replied. “We take this seriously, as it doesn’t reflect our standards.”

Pizza Hut added it was “working quickly” to resolve the issue and the matter has since been taken care of – but only after the health department got involved.

According to the Durham Region Health Department, storing food supplies in the washroom could have created a contamination risk to customers and had received complaints over the situation.

“We take all non-compliances seriously and will investigate this issue immediately. This issue had been raised to our Department yesterday and an investigation was carried out; at the time of inspection, the items had already been removed and the washroom cleaned thoroughly,” they told NOW Toronto.

Caryma Sa’d visited the Pizza Hut in question on May 4, confirming that the supplies that were in the bathroom had been disposed of.

This isn’t the first time that a viral TikTok has resulted in massive change happening at a restaurant.

Infamously, in 2021, a video showing a rat-infested Popeyes in Washington, DC went viral and resulted in the restautrant being shut down.
