Dale! Florida International University’s football stadium will now be known as Pitbull Stadium.
The Miami rapper announced a five-year deal for the naming rights to FIU Stadium on Tuesday (August 6th), which stipulates he will pay the school $1.2 million per year for the length of the agreement. Mr. 305 will also be able to host 10 events per year at the stadium rent-free, including concerts.
Per ESPN, the deal — which has an option for five more years — will also require Pitbull to record a new FIU anthem, post about the school a dozen times every year, and appear at one athletics fundraising event per year. Seems reasonable.
FIU Stadium opened in 1995 and has a 20,000-seat capacity. Originally known as FIU Community Stadium, it was renamed Ocean Bank Field at FIU Stadium from 2001 to 2017 and Riccardo Silva Stadium from 2017 to 2022.
Coming off back-to-back 4-8 seasons under coach Mike MacIntyre, the FIU Panthers could certainly use Mr. Worldwide’s extra publicity. The team has played only five bowl games over the past two decades.
Meanwhile, Pitbull’s “Party After Dark Tour” with special guest T-Pain kicks off on August 21st. See the full list of dates, and grab your tickets here.
