Pirate Software responds to claims record-breaking Twitch stream was ‘faked’

Streamer Pirate Software has responded to claims that his record-breaking Twitch hype train was ‘faked’ for the achievement.

Since criticizing the Stop Killing Games movement, Pirate Software has come under fire from a few different angles. The video game developer and streamer stepped away from Ludwig’s OffBrand Games studio after Rivals of Aether 2 was review-bombed due to his attachment.

Despite SKG reaching its 1 million signature goal, the streamer has continued to state that the petition is “too vague” with what it wants to achieve.

With critics firing back at him, Pirate Software has been accused of faking his voice on stream, and even faking the record-breaking Twitch hype train that his channel went on.

Pirate Software addresses Twitch hype train claims

Screenshots of messages between him and one of his moderators circulated on X (formerly Twitter) with claims that they orchestrated the record.

“Nope. Khronos used his own money to do this and asked if it was ok to do so.  He wasn’t paid for this or told to do it either,” the streamer fired back.

“He’s a grown ass man and can spend his money in whatever way he chooses. You can hate me all you like, but going after my staff is s*it tier behavior.”

Pirate Software was also quizzed on why he was discussing Twitch Bits being used in the hunt for the record.

“This is something I talk about with the community all the time. If you purchase 25,000 bits around 82% of your purchase ends up making it to the streamer and as such pushes the hype train more. It’s not secret info. It’s basic math,” he stated.

“He wanted to push the train so I let him know, as I always let everyone know, the best way to do so. At the end of the day it’s his money. Nobody was told to do anything and he’s his own man and can do what he wants.”

The game dev noted that it is “absolutely not against TOS” for a moderator to use their accounts for subscribers and bits.

“In no way was it triggered by me, nor was he compensated or reimbursed for it,” he said.
