Twitch streamer Pirate Software has revealed that he is no longer working for Ludwig’s OffBrand Games amid the ongoing drama over his views on the Stop Killing Games movement.
Back in April 2024, the Stop Killing Games movement was launched by YouTuber Ross Scott – better known as AccursedFarms – aimed at challenging the ‘legality of publishers destroying video games’.
The movement essentially wants to stop publishers ‘killing’ games once official developer support has ended. It has naturally gained support from plenty of gamers, but not Pirate Software as the Twitch streamer stated that it was “too vague” in its aims.
Amid his criticism of SKG, Rivals of Aether 2 – a game that the streamer worked on at Ludwig’s OffBrand Games – was review-bombed on Steam.
Pirate Software leaves OffBrand Games
Ludwig addressed the review bombs, stating that Pirate Software has “no personal stake” in the game and it “feels wrong” that his studio was being punished.
Since then, the streamer has stepped away from the development team. “I am no longer working at @offbrand_games. People were attacking all of the games we were publishing and trying to mass review bomb them,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“You can dislike the things I say but this kind of behavior is unhinged. Learned a lot there, accomplished a lot, hope they succeed regardless. Love those dudes and loved working with them. Hope they keep cooking.”
He followed up with a further post, addressing claims that he was ‘lying’ about the ‘attacks’ towards the games and devs.
“For those trying to say this is now somehow a lie. The abuse was across socials, people on Discord, Twitter, Reddit, and some reviews on steam,” he said.
“Indie Games are fragile thing, and attacks like that hit hard. Overall sentiment was to bash the games and the developers working on them to try to get back at me. Not worth bringing them down for my opinion. Also, stop it, get some help.”
Ludwig thanked the streamer for stepping away, too.
“Stop Killing Games is a good initiative, but a few bad actors review bombed/harassed developers of the games we support at @offbrand_games. Appreciate thor stepping down for the betterment of the devs and their games,” he added.
