Kapamilya actor Piolo Pascual is overly excited to show Pinoy sensibilities in his latest soap opera, the Pinoy adaptation of the hit Korean series “Flower of Evil.”
“The Pinoy sensibilities is what we are excited about since it’s a Korean series. Iba ‘yung treatment (The treatment is different), but the way we adapted is very Pinoy. ‘Yung ang nakaka-excite na part dito (That’s the exciting part here). More than the pressure, it’s the excitement and the challenge na gawin namang pusong Pinoy (to make it Pinoy at heart) and our own version of a beautiful story such as ‘Flower of Evil,’” he said during the poster-reveal online press conference yesterday, May 23.
When asked what attack he would do to his character to make it different, he said, “You have to create your own. At the end of the day, it’s not about copying, but it’s about coming out with something new, something that can be more exciting for the audience, not to compare. We’re so past that.”
Pascual admits he has become a fan of K-drama since he did “Lovers in Paris.”
“When this was pitched to me, it was during the pandemic and I was just really excited to get out of the house to work, to do something. Right away, hindi ko na talaga siya pinag-isipan (I did not give so much thought about it). I watched the Korean version and I fell in love with it. There was no doubt, it was the right fit for me,” he said.
About his character, Pascual says it’s “totally different in so many ways.”
“I have to regulate my emotions and I have to stick to the boundaries of my character which is very multi-layered and so complicated. I didn’t realize what I was getting into until I was on the set. It was a lot of fun but it was a lot of work. It really brings the best and worst in you,” he said.
“Flower of Evil” tells the story of a guy who is married to a detective. He was able to hide his other identity from his wife. Pascual stars in the series with actress Lovi Poe. /ra
