Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Tomb Raider Series Ordered at Prime Video

Phoebe Waller-Bridge Is Developing a Tomb Raider Series

Prime Video has ordered a series based on the popular video game-turned-action movie Tomb Raider with Phoebe Waller-Bridge set to write and executive produce.

Waller-Bridge is best known as the force behind Amazon’s hit black comedy Fleabag. No cast has been set as of yet for the Tomb Raider series. The 2001 and 2018 film entries in the franchise starred Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, respectively, as its protagonist, the adventurous archaeologist Lara Croft.

“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators,” Waller-Bridge said in a statement. “Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”

Waller-Bridge will executive produce with Jenny Robbins through Wells Street Productions. Video game studio Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios will produce the show.

The Tomb Raider series is the latest project to come from Waller-Bridge, who renewed a whopping three-year deal with Amazon last year. She’s also working on an adaptation of Claudia Lux’s novel Sign Here, with Lux attached to write the script.

Last year, Waller-Bridge starred as Helena Shaw in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
