Just Jared: How excited were you to learn that the show would be coming back and that you would also be returning as well?

David: Over the moon.

Alyson: It seems like, I’ve learned today, that all three of us found out that the show is returning from the internet. So, uh, we were pretty shocked, and we had to check in with each other and verify that this wasn’t just, um, you know, someone fabricating ideas online. Once it was confirmed, it was really special. You know, my entire mind and body felt a mix of joy and relief and, you know, this heartwarming faith in humanity. The people who have created the show are so special, and the impact of the show is, is so special and timely, I think, um, for everything that’s going on. So, I’m thrilled that we have an entire new season and hey, maybe there will be even more seasons. That would be amazing.

Vincent: It’s all very exciting. We love this job so much and it’s, it’s been a real, real pleasure getting to, to play these characters. So we hope we get to for a long time.

Just Jared: David, you’re new to the cast for the TV show, but voiced Ferb in Candace Against the Universe. Did you feel any extra added pressure on taking over the role?

David: You know, I would say, before I had a chance to show what I could do, I think there was a little bit more pressure, Just because you want, you want to do well, you know? I wanna honor the legacy of what (original Ferb voice actor) Thomas Brodie-Sangster brought to this role because first and foremost I am a fan of this show. Like I fell in love with it back in 2012 and I didn’t get involved until late 2017 (for Candace Against the Universe). So for me, the pressure was partially external, partially internal. But one of the things that helped me take a little bit of, um, to make a little light of it is there are few other shows where you take over a role and there’s literally a song in their cannon that says something to the effect of, this is literally the title of a song. ‘You’re not Ferb.’ Um, so for, for that to be in existence and to have people sort of leveling that ahead of time, but then for it to come out and have people be like, ‘No, that’s my [Ferb], yep. Thank you. Great job,’ has been really, really wonderful and rewarding. By and large, this fandom has been insanely sweet. This crew and cast, it’s familial. Immediately they brought me in and made me feel like I was there the whole time. I have felt like I was there the whole time because of the ways that they have welcomed me in.

Vincent: Yeah, everyone’s gonna love all the great work that David’s been doing on the show and, uh, and fans of the show are, are absolutely gonna love it.

Alyson: David’s the best!

Just Jared: What has been your favorite part about, um, like coming back and reprising these characters after so many years away?

Alyson: I’ll chime in. I am excited that I have had the chance to actually grow up into an adult human being with additional life experiences to pull from and different reference points. I think that Isabella is of course, who she always has been, but in the coming episodes, she actually has some new emotional ranges that we get to explore. I do think that there’s something particularly enjoyable about learning how to sing as Isabella across such an array of musical styles. There are a couple new songs that we just recorded that I’m, I’m eager for everyone to hear.

David: I love having the opportunity to record. Um, ’cause I don’t know if, you know, Ferb doesn’t talk that much. So I love having the opportunity to record more than just Ferb. They’ve let me come in and do a handful of other things. I think we’ve all gotten that experience, this go round to, to be trusted to do things other than the core character that we were brought in for. Right. And they’ll throw something at us and be like, ‘Oh, you’re so and so right there. You see him in the picture? Oh, you’re gonna do that guy,’ you know, or, ‘Hey, this character that we need from this organization that’s gonna be you.’ I love, love, love that challenge. I’ve always held, um, ‘additional voices’ actors in such high regard. Um, to, to be able to sort of throw that feather in my cap is really cool. I’m so proud of the rest of the team too. I know it was something that Vince and I have talked about he wanted to do for ages and for them to let him have that feather as well, and from talking today, it seems like Alyson takes a lot of pride in it as well. It’s a really cool additional part of this go round.

Vincent: Yeah, absolutely. I completely agree. Uh, it every, every time we get to go in and get to make magic, I mean, I love making cartoons. I mean, I love performing in general, but there, there’s a definitely a real type of magic that comes along with making cartoons and, you know, going in and creating new voices, and then months later, seeing all the artwork come back. And so I get excited every time I see a new episode of this show, and I know that fans of the show are gonna feel the same way when they see these new episodes coming out.

David: As a fan, I mean, like I said, I was a fan first and I got to watch some screeners, right? We got to watch these things, and to me it felt like no time went by from the last episode that I got to watch that was new or from Candace Against the Universe to this. It’s the same show, just leveled up in in small different ways.
