PewDiePie makes big decision about his future in Japan

YouTube icon PewDiePie revealed whether or not he and his family will remain in Japan or move back to Europe now that his son, Bjorn, is getting older.

Felix ‘PewDiePie‘ Kjellberg, one of YouTube’s biggest stars and an OG in the content creation space, first moved to Japan in 2022 with wife Marzia after spending years trying to make the transition official.

In 2023, the couple welcomed their first child, Bjorn, and have been vlogging their charmed lives in Japan with their toddler and three small dogs for the last two years.

However, now that Bjorn is approaching two years old, the Kjellbergs were struck with a big decision — should they stay in Japan, or move back to Europe?

Since Bjorn’s birth, they’ve been traveling across the globe to meet up with relatives and friends, and it seems like the distance weighed heavily on their minds over the last year.

PewDiePie opened up about the subject during a vlog on March 14, admitting that he and Marzia had been stressing out over whether they should move back to Europe or not.

“Especially now that we have Bjorn, I have to think about what’s better for everyone,” he said. “In many ways, Japan makes no sense, because we’re so far away from family. We are far from friends that we miss back home.

“It’s made it very difficult, because we love living in Japan so much. …trying to come up with a decision has been so difficult, but we finally decided, and we decided that we’re staying.”

Kjellberg admitted that he “doesn’t know how long” they’ll remain in the country, but for the immediate future, he and Marzia are happy with their current living situation — even if it means Bjorn has to learn four different languages (Swedish, Italian, Japanese and English).

“I’m just so happy that we finally made this choice,” he admitted. “It feels so liberating. It’s just been in my head for so long. It just feels right. This is where we love to be.”

For now, PewDiePie says Japan has been “so good” to his family, and he’s been a staunch advocate for the country amid an influx of viral ‘nuisance streamers’ who have been causing chaos while visiting from abroad.
