From the moment the Apple Vision Pro started being delivered there has been a steady torrent of videos showing people wearing the headsets in public while doing seemingly dangerous things.
One man was reportedly arrested for wearing the headset while driving a Tesla. Another was filmed wearing their $3,500 headset on the NYC subway leading to jokes about robbery. Spoiler alert: the subway’s really not that dangerous most hours of the day.
Then there was a video from a Tesla Cybertruck driver who filmed a (comedy) skit showing them driving while using the $3,500 Apple Vision Pro headset. Despite the person admitting on Instagram that it was a skit, the headset wasn’t activated so it was basically sunglasses, and autopilot wasn’t activated, it was still taken seriously by the U.S. government and the Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, issued a response. First up, here is the clip:
In the comments, ‘Supercar Ron’ wrote this:
That didn’t stop Pete Buttigieg, the Secretary of Transportation, from issuing this stern reminder about autopilot usage while driving:
Reminder—ALL advanced driver assistance systems available today require the human driver to be in control and fully engaged in the driving task at all times. pic.twitter.com/OpPy36mOgC

Taking two steps back, it seems like Pete Buttigieg is using this as an opportunity to take a swipe at Tesla’s Autopilot feature more than the Apple Vision Pro headset. After all, if the headset isn’t turned on it’s nothing more than googles or sunglasses. The field of vision is the same as a motorcyclist wearing a helmet.
With all of that in mind, it sure does seem like people are getting dangerously close to making a grave mistake while wearing this headset. Be careful out there.
