We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again, Pedro Pascal is the man of the hour. From The Mandalorian to The Last of Us to hilarious commercials for mobile games, it seems like Pedro Pascal is everywhere. And now, we’re very pleased to add a queer Western movie to our Pedro Pascal Bingo card. Yes, Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke are playing gay cowboys in a movie taking place in the wild west, Strange Way of Life. The movie is written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar, who is known for his unique perspective. And Strange Way of Life‘s trailer doesn’t disappoint—it gives us a stylized, intimate, and over-the-top take on the genre. We can’t wait to see more.
So, what can two men do living together on a ranch? Pedro Pascal’s cowboy character, Silva, will answer us now, and honestly, we can’t to hear the answer. We bet that Ethan Hawke’s Sheriff Jake can’t either. Strange Way of Life‘s trailer certainly hints at a few ideas. And we feel excellent about all of them.
The synopsis for Strange Way of Life shares a bit more about what we can expect:
A man rides a horse across the desert that separates him from Bitter Creek. He comes to visit Sheriff Jake. Twenty-five years earlier, both the sheriff and Silva, the rancher who rides out to meet him, worked together as hired gunmen. Silva visits him with the excuse of reuniting with his friend from his youth, and they do indeed celebrate their meeting, but the next morning Sheriff Jake tells him that the reason for his trip is not to go down the memory lane of their old friendship….
Honestly, we always need more queer Westerns starring gay cowboys. We just hope the duo in Strange Way of Life can ride off happily into the desert sun. We not only need but deserve that.
