‘Peaky Blinders’ Movie Adds Series Stars Including Sophie Rundle

With production underway since late last month, Netflix’s feature adaptation of epic BAFTA-winning series Peaky Blinders continues to build out its cast. Alongside the previously announced Cillian Murphy, Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan and Tim Roth, it was confirmed that Stephen Graham has boarded the film as Deadline also reported exclusively. Graham returns to the world of Peaky after appearing as Hayden Stagg in season six of the Steven Knight-created drama. Further cast now includes more familiar faces, and one new addition.

Among those returning is series star Sophie Rundle (After the Flood, Gentleman Jack) who played Ada, sister to Oscar winner Murphy’s Birmingham clan leader Tommy Shelby. In the series finale, Tommy handed the reins of the family business to Ada.

Also signing up for the film that’s directed by Peaky alum Tom Harper are Ned Dennehy (Culprits, The Peripheral) who played Charlie Strong in the series; Packy Lee (Blue Lights), known to fans as Johnny Dogs; and Ian Peck (His Dark Materials, Robin Hood) who was Curly. New to Peaky is Jay Lycurgo (Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil HimselfI May Destroy You) who over the summer wrapped shooting on the Murphy-led Netflix feature, Steve.

Details on new roles are being played close to the vest.

The six-season BBC drama came to a close in April 2022, but that was not the end of Tommy’s story. Plot details of the film are also under wraps besides the fact that it takes place during World War II. Knight recently said, “I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II. The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”

The saga’s continuation is written by Knight who produces alongside Patrick Holland, Murphy and Guy Heeley. Exec producers include Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Caryn Mandabach and Andrew Warren. The movie will be made in association with BBC Film.
