Papa Roach have teamed up with country-pop legend Carrie Underwood for a new version of ‘Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)’, raising awareness for suicide prevention.
The track was originally featured on the California band’s 2022 album ‘Ego Trip’, and marks their long-time commitment to mental health awareness.
Recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, the new take on the track is set to be released on Friday (August 2) with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) receiving royalties generated from both artists.
The track was re-named ‘Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)’ – formerly just ‘Leave A Light On’ – in conjunction with the AFSP’s Talk Away The Dark campaign, and was first performed live last year on the band’s tour with Shinedown and Spiritbox.
In each city – including Nashville where Carrie Underwood was in attendance – the song was preceded by an emotional video PSA delivered by frontman Jacoby Shaddix, who pledged a donation to the AFSP on behalf of each city’s attendees, culminating in a $155,000 donation at the end of the tour.
Take a look at the band’s announcement of the new track below.
On working on the track, Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix has shared:
“We were humbled that Carrie was open to our mission, and hearing the power of Carrie’s voice in that recording session we were blown away.
“Not only is her vocal ability unequaled, but the impact of her voice brings a new meaning to our cause and will help people all over the globe. It’s an honor to have a “Rock Star” bring life to this track with us.”
And on teaming up with Papa Roach, Carrie Underwood has said:
“I’m such a huge fan of Jacoby and Papa Roach and was honored to be invited to record ‘Leave A Light On’ with them.
“It’s a beautiful song and the message behind it and the band’s mission to shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health awareness has never been more important.”
Papa Roach will play their their first-ever OVO Arena Wembley show on February 07, 2025, which will be their only UK show of 2025.
Boasting a 25th anniversary celebration of their breakthrough album ‘INFEST’, as well as special guests and a DJ, the band will be partnering with suicide prevention charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) for this event, with £1 from every ticket donated to the cause.
