Oscar Isaac is showcasing his comedic chops.

The award-winning actor, best known for his dramatic roles, returned to Studio 8H this week to host Saturday Night Live. The episode, which features musical guest Charli XCX, marks Isaac’s SNL hosting debut, though he made a cameo on the sketch series back in October.

During Isaac’s monologue, he talked about his full circle moment. He wrote, directed, and starred in his own movie, The Avenger, when he was 10 years old. Not to be confused with The Avengers, this was his own home movie. “I play a ninja assassin training to fight his nemesis,” he says. “Arguably better than the real Avengers.

Isaac is in full promotional mode for Moon Knight, a Marvel miniseries that will premiere on Disney+ on March 30. Isaac will star as the titular mercenary who is granted the powers of Egyptian moon god Khonshu. The actor spoke about the series in a 2021 interview with Variety, claiming Moon Knight was one of his most challenging roles to date.

“I found so much room to do things that I’ve never done before and had been curious about and wanting to do. I could not wait to get to set, and it was the biggest workload I’ve ever had in my career and most challenging; by the sheer amount of stuff we had to do in eight months, and even yet, I couldn’t wait to get to set and work.”

Moon Knight was created by Jeremy Slater, and will co-star Ethan Hawke, May Calamawy, and Gaspard Ulliel.
