Today, May 14, Orebolo have made waves with the announcement of The Chateau, the beloved acoustic Americana outfit’s debut studio album, due to release on June 7 via No Coincidence Records. The spin-off trio of Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda, Peter Anspach and Jeff Arevalo has courted acclaim since its 2020 establishment for its stripped-back acoustic treatments of Goose’s anthemic jam standards and other classic cuts, most recently selling out a three-night residency at Port Chester, N.Y.’s The Capitol Theatre. In continuance of this trademark, the band has shared a preview single of the vaunted Vasudo original “Rockdale,” available on all streaming platforms now.
From its first moments, Orebolo’s latest treatment of “Rockdale,”–which also figured into the trio’s 2022 live debut project Volume 1–is unlike anything previously issued by the group, radiating warmth and clarity from its sleek studio sheen, without retaining the grit and physicality that makes the spin-off so special. A bold and full acoustic sound arises from the rapid rapport between the three masterful string voices, alight on soaring harmonies and complete with a tight, funky, locomotive jam.
The single is sourced from Mitarotonda’s new home studio, affectionately termed “The Chateau,” which also staged Goose’s Chateau Sessions earlier this year. Its distinctive, nuanced sound comes together under the guidance of producer D. James Goodwin, a frequent collaborator also known for work with Bob Weir, The Hold Steady, Bonny Light Horseman and more. Other entries in The Chateau’s nine-track lineup include Goose classics like “Rosewood Heart,” “Turned Clouds” and “Dripfield,” as well as Tom Waits’ chilling Blue Valentine standout “Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis,” which has figured into Goose’s live repertoire since 2019.
Just before the album’s release, fans can find Orebolo at the inaugural Solshine: A Music & Arts Reverie in Chillicothe, Ill. on May 24-26, which will also mark Goose’s first live staging since its landmark four-night residency at The Capitol Theatre in April.
