EXCLUSIVE: The Little, Brown imprint Voracious has set a fall 2025 publication date for two books exploring the creative genius of Quentin Tarantino in the making of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Inglourious Basterds.
The books are written by Jay Glennie, and each will have a foreword written by Tarantino. Voracious VP/Publisher Michael Szczerban acquired world rights from Shane Salerno at The Story Factory.
The books will explore the making of these films in depth and detail, the result of hours of interviews that Glennie did with Tarantino about the creation, writing, casting, themes, visuals, production, soundtrack, post-production and global theatrical releases of both films. Aside from the interviews, Tarantino opened his personal archives to Glennie. Over 50 cast and crew also supplied anecdotes and photographs.
The books will include unseen personal photographs, behind-the-scenes stories, script drafts, notes, and changes, production and location materials, shooting schedules and more — painting a complete picture of each movie. Glennie has written books about the making of seminal films including Raging Bull and The Deer Hunter.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood grossed $377 million worldwide and was nominated for 10 Oscars including Best Picture, and Inglourious Basterds got eight Oscar noms including Best Picture and grossed $322 million theatrically worldwide.
Tarantino is still figuring out his 10th and final film after Deadline revealed he scrapped The Movie Critic, in which Brad Pitt would have reprised his Oscar-winning Cliff Booth role from Once Upon a Time. Book writing figures to be a big part of Tarantino’s post-filmmaking future and he’s already written two superb bestsellers. One was the novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, followed by Cinema Speculation. Latter was a combination of film theory and how Tarantino was indoctrinated into R-rated filmgoing as a youth.

I just know that there is no better guy to take a deep dive into my movies,” Tarantino said. “Myself and my cast and crews have loved reliving our time making Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Inglourious Basterds with Jay, and we’re all looking forward to seeing the finished books. This is just the beginning, as I know Jay is as excited as me to explore my other movies.”
The plan is to ultimately have Glennie complete a Tarantino film library.
