Back in 2021, reports came out that Shia LaBeouf had been fired from his role in Olivia Wilde’s thriller film Don’t Worry Darling. Now that the film is about a month away from being released, though, LaBeouf has spoken out to set the record straight.
Last week, after Wildie reiterated in an interview that she fired LaBeouf from the film, the actor publicly surfaced for the first time in over a year to dispute Wilde’s claims by providing Variety with emails and text messages that suggest her account of the situation isn’t entirely accurate.
In the emails, LaBeouf wrote, “You and I both know the reasons for my exit. I quit your film because your actors and I couldn’t find time to rehearse.”
According to the texts, LaBeouf and Wilde met in person in Los Angeles to discuss his exit from the film on Aug. 16, 2020. Later that night, Wilde texted him [in part], “Thanks for letting me in on your thought process. I know that isn’t fun. Doesn’t feel good to say no to someone, and I respect your honesty…. I’m gutted because it could have been something special.”
LaBeouf claims he “officially” quit “Don’t Worry Darling” the next day on Aug. 17, 2020, according to the email he sent to Wilde on Thursday morning. [via Variety]

Now, a video that Wilde apparently sent to LaBeouf has hit the internet and it’s yet another piece of evidence that suggests perhaps LaBeouf is telling the truth after all.
Don’t Worry Darling, which stars Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, and Wilde herself alongside Pugh and Styles, will hit theaters in the United States on September 23. The film is Wilde’s second feature film that she’s directed following 2019’s critically-acclaimed coming-of-age comedy Booksmart.
