Olivia Rodrigo will honor Alanis Morissette by inducting her into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. “I remember hearing Alanis for the first time when I was about 13. I was in the car with my parents when ‘Jagged Little Pill’ came on,” Rodrigo said in a statement provided to the organization, per its Instagram. “I heard ‘Perfect,’ I was like, ‘Oh, my God . . . You can write songs like that?’ I just looked at music and songwriting in a completely different way.” Rodrigo will present the award on Sept. 24 at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala at Massey Hall in Toronto. Alessia Cara, Corey Hart, and Nickelback will also perform at the ceremony.
Rodrigo and Morissette united previously for the cover of Rolling Stone’s “Musicians on Musicians” series in October 2021. Morissette also stepped out at LA’s Greek Theatre to join Rodrigo on her “Sour” tour, and the pair performed a version of Morissette’s angsty classic “You Oughta Know.” Morissette is also currently on a 2022 world tour, and her classic album “Jagged Little Pill” inspired a Broadway musical of the same name.
For Rodrigo’s part, following her “Sour” tour, she appeared in “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” season three, taking to the red carpet alongside costar and rumored ex Joshua Bassett to celebrate the premiere in July.
