So, are you excited to see Katy Perry, Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez and three other women blast off into space on April 14th with Sanchez’s boyfriend’s private space company? Olivia Munn, for one, is not.
The upcoming Blue Origin NS-31 space flight is being hyped as having the first all-female crew since Russian astronaut Valentina Tereshkova flew solo into space in 1963. Former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn will also be joining Perry, King and Sanchez on the trip.
Olivia Munn, who is co-hosting Today With Jenna and Friends this week, made her feelings pretty clear about the venture during Thursday’s episode of the show.
“I know this probably isn’t the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now,” Munn said, then asked, “What are you guys gonna do up in space? What are you doing up there?”
Bush Hager explained to Munn that the women will be traveling on the rocket ship for a total of 11 minutes, four of which will actually be in space.
“If you wanna go to space, why do you need to tell us about it, you know? It’s just like, go up there, have a good time, come on down” Munn mused.
“I know this is probably obnoxious, but like, it’s so much money to go to space, and there’s a lot of people who can’t even afford eggs,” she added.
Bush Hager then referenced the fact that the women, who were recently featured on the cover of Elle magazine, have said they will all be “going in glam” during the trip.
“Who would not get glam before the flight?!” Sanchez told the magazine. “Space is going to finally be glam,” Katy Perry replied, adding, “We are going to put the ‘a–’ in astronaut.”
“What? They said this out loud?!” an astonished Munn asked Bush Hager. “What’s the point? Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it’s a bit gluttonous. Space exploration was to further our knowledge and to help mankind. What are they gonna do up there that has made it better for us down here?”
Olivia Munn then added, “This is a lot of resources being spent.”
