Marvel Studios
Marvel Studios has released the first official trailer for The Fantastic Four: Four Steps. The Fantastic Four: Four Steps hits theaters on Friday, July 25.
The trailer seems to be harkening back to an earlier Marvel Cinematic Universe era as, despite its galactic scale, it is clearly focusing on the emotionality of the characters and the story, particularly the relationship between Marvel’s “First Family,” the Fantastic Four: Pedro Pascal’s Mr. Incredible, Vanessa Kirby’s Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s The Thing.
In addition to the titular Fantastic Four, the official trailer has also revealed the first look at Julia Garner as The Silver Surfer. Ralph Ineson is also starring as the villainous planet-eating Galactus, who is briefly teased in the stinger of the trailer.
Check out the official synopsis and trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps below.
“Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, the Fantastic Four must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer. And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone in it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”
While some MCU fans might have been hoping for a bit more action in this latest trailer, leaning on the emotionality is absolutely the right play.
Marvel desperately needs characters that are loved the way Tony Stark and Steve Rogers were, especially characters as key as the Fantastic Four that will certainly be central to the next decade of MCU filmmaking. None of the spectacle, whether it’s great or CGI slop, will matter if the story doesn’t connect, and the way to make the story connect is to make the audience care about the characters.
In addition to Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ralph Ineson, and Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the first film in the MCU’s “Phase 6”, will also star Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles.
