Kamala Harris isn’t the only Democratic politician claiming Brat Summer. Barack Obama has shared his yearly summer playlist, and it includes (you guessed it) the green queen herself, Charli XCX. Rounding out his list is a mix of modern hits and old-school classics; see Obama’s full summer playlist below.
In addition to the Brat cut “365,” the former president included Billie Eilish’s “CHIHRO,” Tems’ “Love Me Jeje,” Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” and H.E.R.’s “Process.” The Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” Bob Dylan’s “Silvio,” and Sting’s “If You Love Somebody Set Them Free” introduce a healthy classic rock presence, while the Charles Mingus track “Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting” and Pharaoh Sanders’ “Love Is Everywhere” proves he still gets jazzy with it.
“With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately — and it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix,” he wrote on Twitter. “I hope you find something new to listen to!”
It’s an eclectic mix indeed. Other picks of note include “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me” from The Miracles and “No Diggity,” which comes by way of Blackstreet, Dr. Dre, and Queen Pen. Elsewhere, listeners will find songs from WILLOW, Nick Drake, Common, Norah Jones, Bad Bunny, Bob Marley & The Wailers, The Supremes, Beyoncé, GloRilla, Moneybagg Yo (yeah, the one featuring Morgan Wallen), and more.
Of all the genres and musical decades represented, however, your favorite artist’s favorite artist appears to have gotten snubbed — i.e. there’s no Chappell Roan. Perhaps the Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess star’s public refusal to perform at a White House pride event had something to do with it…
