Norah Jones has returned to announce her ninth studio album, Visions, out March 8th. She’s also mapped out a brief East Coast tour and shared the album’s lead single, “Running.” Stream it below.
Visions serves as Jones’ first album since 2020’s Pick Me Up Off the Floor, and is described in a statement as being about “feeling free, wanting to dance, making it right, and acceptance of what life brings.” Produced by Leon Michels (El Michels Affair, The Arcs), Visions features a more uplifting and soulful sound than her previous record.
“The reason I called the album Visions is because a lot of the ideas came in the middle of the night or in that moment right before sleep, and ‘Running’ was one of them where you’re half asleep and kind of jolted awake,” Jones said in a press release. “We did most of the songs in the same way where I was at the piano or on guitar and Leon was playing drums and we were just jamming on stuff. I like the rawness between me and Leon, the way it sounds kind of garage-y but also kind of soulful, because that’s where he’s coming from, but also not overly perfected.”
In addition to announcing Visions, Jones has mapped out a brief East Coast tour for this spring. Starting with a May 6th date in Boston and concluding with an appearance at Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival in Saratoga, New York, Jones will also play shows in Philadelphia; Washington, DC; and the brand new Brooklyn venue The Brooklyn Paramount. See the full list of dates below.
A Live Nation ticket pre-sale is set for Thursday, January 25th (use code SPOTLIGHT), followed by a public on-sale on Friday, January 26th via Ticketmaster.
Once tickets are on sale, you can also find them at StubHub, where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program. StubHub is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.
On “Running,” Michel’s warm saxophone and snare-heavy drum beat certainly adds to the song’s momentum, but Jones’ versatile vocals cool everything down. She narrates the feeling of life’s unpredictability, pondering a love that “could be wrong or it could be right.”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Jones takes a light jog in the green screen-heavy video for “Running.” Watch the clip, directed by Joelle Grace Taylor, below.
