OTK streamer Nick ‘nmplol’ Polom has responded after an AI-generated picture of Katchii and him reimagined as Studio Ghibli characters sparked backlash.
OpenAI launched image generation inside of ChatGPT 4o in March, and it allows users to create images based on their favorite animated shows.
One of the most popular image styles is based on the work of Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli, which is known for movies like Howl’s Moving Castle, Totoro, and Princess Mononoke.
Thousands of posts using the style have flooded social media platforms, and OTK streamer nmplol was among those who made their own Ghibli-fied picture.
Nick Polom sparks backlash after posting AI-generated photo
“I am not sure what Studio Ghibli is, but I look better this way,” he said on Thursday, March 27. In the post, Nmp shared an AI-generated Studio Ghibli-style photo of himself with his arm around fellow streamer Katchii.
The post almost immediately went viral on X and sparked backlash from users on the Musk-owned platform.
“Nick taking another L,” one user commented.
Another said: “Stop bro, buy an artist. You have the money.”
“Pretty disappointing to see this ngl,” replied a third.
Despite the backlash, many took to the replies to share their love for the post, with many people thinking the image was “pretty cool.” Regardless, Nick was quick to respond to the users “crying” in the comments.
“Y’all crying in the comments, I do not care. This tweet is dog sh*t the ai art is dog sh*t but y’all crying is worse holy f**k shut up,” he said in a reply.
“9 hours later didn’t read not a one of the 125 replies just letting yall know.”
The reaction to the uptick in AI-generated Studio Ghibli posts has been mixed since they began taking over social media, with many streamers sharing their thoughts. Former OTK member Asmongold commented on them during a stream, blasting artists upset about the posts in the process.
“I would focus on a career change. Go be a plumber or something like that,” he said.
Others helped resurface a 2016 clip from Miyazaki himself, in which he called an AI-generated animation an “insult to life itself” and shared that he was “utterly disgusted” with the technology.
