SOPHIE Marceu is a perfect example of French ageless beauty as the nineties movie star actually looks even more beautiful now than she did in the prime of her career.
The 57-year-old actress is best known for playing iconic Bond villain Elektra King in 1999.
Unlike most of the women in Bond films, who mostly act as fodder for 007’s many love affairs, Elektra had a storyline of her own.
Sophie’s character did have a fling with James Bond (played by Pierce Brosnan), but only briefly, before kidnapping and torturing him with a garrote.
She is also responsible for the injury and death of the MI6 agent’s ally, Valentin Zukovsky.
The French starlet was nominated for Best Actress at the Empire Awards in 2000 after her outstanding performance in The World is Not Enough.
Instead of going on to star in another internationally acclaimed movie, Sophie made the pivot to being a director.
She made it public knowledge that her feature length film, Parlez-Moi d’Amour, was based on her personal experiences.
The drama focused on the story of a wife and mother whose marriage with her jealous foreign husband is in the process of breaking down.
It is more than likely that the story she portrayed was that of her controversial love affair with French-Polish director Andrzej Zulawski.
Known for cult classic horror film Possession, Andrzej began his relationship with Sophie when she was only 18.
Their romance came under fire for the age difference as he was 24 years older than her.
However, she stayed with him for 16 years, and they had a son together in 1995.
It was after their split that she directed her film, and she has spoken fondly about her time behind the camera, saying: “It’s so attractive, too attractive.
“Your writing becomes more real than your reality. Acting is contained – you act for three months, then leave it – but writing is the act of creation.”
