Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Los Angeles Rising, a new benefit album for victims of the LA wildfires, has been released with contributions from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, DEVO, Primal Scream, and more.

Masterminded by Kevin Haskins (Love and Rockets, Bauhaus) and producer Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, IDLES), all proceeds from the compilation will go to Sweet Relief, which provides financial assistance to career musicians and music industry workers. Purchase it exclusively on Bandcamp.

Featuring 16 previously unreleased songs, some of the compilation’s highlights include a stripped-back cover of “California Dreamin’” by Jarvis Cocker and “Turn Into Redux,” Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ alternate take on the Show Your Bones cut.

“As the wildfires were raging and destroying thousands of homes around Los Angeles, both my neighborhood and Nick’s were instructed to evacuate. But we were the lucky ones,” Haskins said in a press statement. “The fire threatening our homes and recording studios was thankfully extinguished by firefighters just minutes away, but countless musicians and friends lost everything.”

Launay added, “This harrowing experience and witnessing the monumental destruction of entire communities inspired Nick and I to team up to create a compilation album to raise money for the less fortunate. We reached out to our musician friends for unreleased recorded gems and the response was incredible! PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker, Primal Scream, Gary Numan, and Devo are just some of the artists that rushed in to help.”

Earlier this week, Bandcamp announced that 100% of proceeds on February 7th will be directed to MusiCares. Additionally, 90 artists — including R.E.M., Death Cab for Cutie + The Postal Service, Tenacious D, Faye Webster, TV on the Radio, and Courtney Barnett — have contributed to a separated LA wildfire relief album called Good Music to Life Los Angeles.

Here at Consequence, we are doing our part to help music industry professionals recover with our “All for LA: Protect Live Music” benefit T-shirt. 100% of proceeds go to benefit MusiCares, while several other merch items — including long sleeve shirts, tees, and beanies — will have proceeds donated to World Central Kitchen to help them feed those impacted by and fighting to contain the LA wildfires.
