“Print is Dead”: New Limited-Edition Tee from Relix and Imogene + Willie
Rob Moderelli on July 29, 2025
In 1974, a budding network of tapers across the country sought a way to connect beyond the lot as the Grateful Dead began their first hiatus. They found community in the pages of Dead Relix, then a coveted cut-and-paste guide to the world of bootleg show recordings. With the guidance of founder Les Kippel and others, a magazine took root, steadily shifting from Xeroxed pamphlets to the widely circulated, full-color voice of the emergent jam scene; as the Dead returned, and retreated again, and passed the torch to successive generations, the music never stopped on and beyond the print pages.
50 years after its founding, Relix is still going strong and holding true to our founding ideals. To honor the traditions of improvisational rock and music journalism, we’ve partnered with Imogene + Willie for a special new collaborative t-shirt that leans into our grassroots origins and enshrines the DIY spirit at the heart of our work.
Imogene + Willie is a Nashville-based outfitter that creates premium, timeless pieces that are patterned, cut and sewn in the US. Building on our shared passion for history and culture, we’ve teamed up for a shirt that uses their classic printmaking approach to represent the deep roots and towering legacy of the Grateful Dead and the community that exploded from their influence.
The “Print is Dead” tee is cut from plush, 6oz, 100% cotton jersey in a dusty garment-washed off-white, designed to feel like your oldest and best-loved shirt from the first wear. Secure yours and become a part of the story here.
