Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. It’s a familiar refrain for fans of the animated show Avatar: The Last Airbender. And soon, everything will change once more. Because Avatar: The Last Airbender is heading to live-action. Netflix will soon release a brand new take on the series. Incredibly, we first heard about the live-action ATLA series in 2018, but now we know it will finally arrive in 2024. And, at long last, we have first-look images of Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s main characters in their live-action forms. Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko have all come brilliantly to life. The streamer also released the first teaser for the live-action Avatar show. Phew, let’s take a look at it all.
First-Look Photos of Live-Action Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s Main Characters
Fans have eagerly anticipated the live-action transformation of ATLA‘s main characters. And now, we can finally see what season one’s main cast will look like in the Netflix series. And, we must say, the characters look very much like their animated counterparts. Here’s our first look at Katara, Sokka, Aang, and, of course, Zuko.
We don’t yet get to fully take in Zuko’s iconic hairstyle in this live-action image. But Netflix has to save something for later, we suppose. So far, the costumes and styling of the characters look great. The images are full of small details and intricacies we enjoy seeing. We also get glimpses of the Southern Water Tribe in the background of Aang and Sokka’s shots, and so far, so good. Of course, one of the most exciting aspects of these images is a tease of Katara’s water-bending in live-action action. Getting live-action bending right will be crucial to the success of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. For now, though, the images remain still. But Netflix did also share the first bit of footage related to the show.
Live-Action ATLA Gets a Netflix Release Date Window and Teaser
The first Avatar: The Last Airbender teaser doesn’t show us much of the series yet, but it reminds us of the core elements that need to find harmony. And it gives us a release window for the Avatar live-action series. Take a look below.
The four nations have never looked or sounded better, and we can’t wait to see more from the show. As is often mentioned, the Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series is one of the most beloved around, so Netflix’s live-action series has big shoes to fill.
A synopsis for the series reminds us of what we can expect and who we will help create the magic.
The series will be an authentic adaptation of the award-winning and beloved Nickelodeon animated series AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER reimagined as a live-action adventure. Albert Kim (Sleepy Hollow, Nikita) serves as showrunner, executive producer, and writer. Alongside Kim, Rideback’s Dan Lin (The Lego Movie, Aladdin) and Lindsey Liberatore (Walker) serve as executive producers as well as Michael Goi (Swamp Thing, American Horror Story). Goi, Roseanne Liang (also a co-executive producer), Jabbar Raisani and Jet Wilkinson direct.
Avatar: The Last Airbender will come to our screens in 2024, so hopefully we’ll be seeing a fuller trailer soon. In the meanwhile, it’s a great time to rewatch the original series. Hopefully, all your favorite moments and scenes will make the live-action cut.
