With the impending polar vortex, our houses can feel chilly no matter how high we turn up the heat. This is especially true if you’re home is old and drafty or if you (like me) sit and work next to a window. That’s where space heaters come in. Just plug the little device in nearby and feel instantly warmer. But if you’ve recently purchased a space heater through Amazon, you’ll want to keep reading, as nearly 8,000 of them have been recalled over “electric shock and fire hazards.”

Vornado is recalling its VH2 Whole Room Heaters.

A notice released today by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is alerting people that Vornado has recalled about 7,780 of its VH2 Whole Room Heaters, which were exclusively sold on Amazon between Aug. 2024 and Oct. 2024 for about $90.

According to the company, affected products will have a date code of “JUL24” or “AUG24” as part of the SERIAL NO and “TYPE VH2” printed on the silver rating label located on the underside.

“The power cord can partially detach from the heater enclosure which can lead to cord damage over time, posing electric shock and fire hazards,” reads the recall notice.

At the time of writing, no incidents or injuries were reported. However, if you own this space heater, you should immediately stop using it and contact Vornado to find out how to receive a free replacement.

In Nov. 2024, GoveeLife space heaters were recalled.

CPSC

This isn’t the only recent space heater recall. In Nov. 2024, CPSC recalled about 512,500 (plus about 48,600 in Canada) space heaters from the brand GoveeLife.

“The smart electric space heaters can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. Testing determined the smart electric space heaters do not comply with the voluntary industry safety standard, UL 1278, posing an overheating and fire risk from wireless control features,” the recall read.

In this case, the company received 13 reports of overheating, including seven reports of fires and one report of a minor burn injury.

These space heaters were also sold on Amazon, as well as through TikTok Shop and Govee, between Sept. 2021 and Sept. 2024 for between $30 and $150.

The affected GoveeLife and Govee smart electric space heaters were sold in black or white with the following model numbers: H7130 (including the H7130101 variation), H7131, H7132, H7133, H7134, and H7135.

Again, if you believe you have one of these appliances, you should stop using it immediately and contact Govee to receive a full refund.
