Following Kai Cenat sparking debate by claiming he “didn’t understand” how PewDiePie became so popular on YouTube, MrBeast responded, calling it an “L take.”

During Kai’s Batman Arkham marathon stream, the Twitch star hesitated before admitting he never quite understood PewDiePie’s massive fanbase. “I never got how ****s got into PewDiePie. I’m sorry… I just don’t know how ****s got into that,” he said.

MrBeast responded to Dexerto’s post of the clip on Twitter/X, defending PewDiePie’s legacy:

“L take, he fundamentally shaped YouTube culture. I miss meme review and loved watching play random games while I ate dinner every night. Poods a goat.”

MrBeast’s response to Kai Cenat sparks further divide

Various users replied, agreeing with MrBeast, “Agree with MrBeast on this. And I believe it’s just a difference in target audience. Kai Cenat might not fully understand it, but many others will,” one said.

“I agree with you 100%. That’s because a lot of these newer creators have no respect for the people who paved the way for them,” came another.

A third chimed in, “It is an L take. In 10 years, people are going to say ‘idk how people watched Kai.’”

However, others weren’t as convinced. “I understand you MrBeast but it’s not an L take,” a user replied, while one more noted, “Can’t blame him, some of these people weren’t even born when PewDiePie was in his prime.”

Another added: “Not denying he shaped YT culture—but like Kai, Pewds’ personality and humor was not for me. It felt dry, and he always came off arrogant to me.”

PewDiePie is one of YouTube’s most-subscribed creators of all-time.

PewDiePie is renowned as one of YouTube’s most iconic creators—if not the most iconic by many—and has amassed over 110 million subscribers since launching his channel in 2010.

He first gained fame with horror game playthroughs like Amnesia and Slender, before expanding into vlogs, commentary, and even music, shaping internet culture along the way.

Now semi-retired, he lives in Japan with his wife and son, Bjorn, born in July 2023, while still posting YouTube videos fairly often, typically every week to a month.

At the time of writing, neither Kai Cenat nor PewDiePie has responded to the Twitch star’s original remarks or MrBeast’s comments.
