YouTube star Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson has revealed he’s writing a book with one of the most iconic thriller authors ever, James Patterson.
James Patterson released his first book back in 1976, but didn’t start to take off in popularity until the first book in the Alex Cross series became available in 1993.
Since then, he’s become one of the most iconic thriller authors ever, with millions of books sold over the years and over 200 published since he began.
Patterson has featured a co-author on a lot of his books, including Dolly Parton in his 2022 story “Run Rose, Run.” Now, MrBeast has revealed that he’s writing a book with the iconic storyteller.

“I’m excited to work with James Patterson, the GOAT of thrillers,” Donaldson revealed in a post on X. “We’ve been cooking a really unique story together, and I can’t wait to see your reactions! It’s been fun to work on a different medium outside videos.”
In the comments, one of MrBeast’s followers mentioned how successful Patterson has been over his career.
“Yup, lowkey surprised he was down to work with me lol,” he said.”
According to The New York Times, MrBeast’s book with Patterson is quite similar to some of the YouTuber’s viral video ideas.
The unnamed book with focus on an “extreme global contest” that involves 100 players competing to prove their leadership skills by “surviving life threatening tests” in dangerous locations around the world.
“In a battle to win the billion-dollar prize, participants form relationships and betray one another as they struggle to avoid elimination, or death,” said the publication.
We’ll have to wait until 2026 for the book to be published. In the meantime, Donaldson has put out a casting call for Beast Games contestants for a second season of his super-popular Amazon Prime show.
Beast Games isn’t the only non-YouTube project MrBeast has up his sleeve either. Back in April, he announced that he’s leaning into his “ruthless game show host persona” by voicing a character in Netflix’s Love, Death + Robots.
