A man who brought a ventriloquist dummy to the cinemas has left the internet swearing they would have “instantly” bailed.
Going with a friend or date to the movies can be a lot more fun than riding solo, however, those around you might not agree if your company happens to be a ventriloquist dummy.
The puppets, alongside other dolls, have earned a terrifying reputation over the years thanks to horror films and their often “creepy” appearance.
Nonetheless, one man was not deterred by this and brought a ventriloquist doll named Raymond to the movies via a suitcase, leaving onlookers ‘concerned’.
Posting about the experience, X user Florian Bettencourt Twombly said Raymond was ‘assembled’ in his own seat (which had allegedly been paid for) with a box of popcorn and introduced to movie-goers.
While Florian described the man accompanying Raymond as “funny and charming”, he also described the situation as “unhinged” and revealed that Raymond was even made to “talk”.
Many responded to the post by stating they would “instantly walk out” if they found themselves in Florian’s position.
“There is zero chance I’d still be sitting next to Raymond when the lights dim,” one person wrote. Another said that simply “reading” Florian’s post left them feeling “cursed” as they expected the picture of Raymond to “turn its head”.
There were those, however, who supported Raymond’s attendance: “Mind your business and let the man and his cursed Victorian doll enjoy the film.”
In response to one commenter who was unimpressed that a photo of Raymond was taken and shared online, Florian said, “He was taking pictures as well and encouraging it. You can’t bring out a ventriloquist at the cinema, give it popcorn, and start taking photos of it and not expect others to do the same.”
Florian said the man behind Raymond had “even asked us to tag him” but failed to give movie-goers his handle before the movie concluded.
