MORRISSEY has revealed that The Smiths were set to reunite for a huge 2025 tour.
However, the singer also admitted that one particular member of the rock band refused to take part.
Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce made up the original line up of The Smiths at their formation in 1982.
However, in 1987 the band suffered from internal tensions and they subsequently split up and never performed together again.
Morrisey, 65, has now revealed that there was a chance of getting some of the band members back together again for a tour in 2025.
However, he revealed that Johnny Marr, 60, wanted nothing to do with the idea and they both focussed on their own solo music.
On his website, the singer said: “In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide as ‘The Smiths’ throughout 2025.
“Morrissey said ‘Yes’ to the offer; Marr ignored the offer.”
The songwriter added: “Morrissey undertakes a largely sold-out tour of the USA in November.
“Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.”
The group was known for their numerous hit albums including Meat Is Murder, which reached number one in 1985.
Mainstream success in Europe came with The Queen Is Dead and Strangeways, Here We Come in the second half of the eighties.
Their bitter split was followed by public legal action as various members of the group filed lawsuits over royalties.
For three decades since, various members of the group have said that they would never reunite and perform again.
Various offers were made over the years to get them back together, but the members have all refused.
This comes as brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher have put aside their feud to reunite for a historic stadium tour.
The once warring brothers will share the stage once again as they are set to hit the road in 2025.
They will perform gigs on 17 dates across the UK in cities such as Manchester, Cardiff and Edinburgh.
However, fans have worried that the pair have not fully settled the feud as sources told The Sun that they were “a long way off being mates.”
