Country music artist Morgan Wallen caused a stir over the weekend after he abruptly stormed off the Saturday Night Live stage during the outros in which the host and musical guest mingle with the cast and crew. Following his brief televised temper tantrum, Wallen then took to Instagram to post a photo of a private jet with the caption “Get me to God’s country.”

Wallen also could have simply not agreed to appear on Saturday Night Live. Instead, he appeared on the show to promote his music, pouted on stage during the outro, rushed off to his private plane, and then took to social media to sub-tweet the city of New York like a freshman girl.

Given the absurdity of Morgan Wallen’s “Get me to God’s country” post — from the tone-deafness of saying that sort of thing via a picture of a private jet and suggesting that, as SNL vet Kenan Thompson put it, we all aren’t under “God’s umbrella” — the phrase has blown up on social media and become the meme of the week.

In addition to the deluge of memes from regular people on social media, official accounts for brands/companies such as the Empire State Building, HBO MAX, Merriman Webster, IGN, Arby’s, Focus Features, and the Atlanta Hawks got in on the fun.

Since Wallen’s post, there’s also been debate about where exactly he meant by “God’s country,” with many figuring that he likely meant Tennessee, the state where he’s been arrested and charged multiple times, and also where he was recorded saying the N-word in 2021.
