Country music artist Morgan Wallen sparked controversy over the weekend after abruptly storming off the Saturday Night Live stage during the traditional outros, where the host and musical guest mingle with the cast and crew. Following his brief on-air tantrum, Wallen — who was the guest musician for the Saturday, March 29 episode alongside host Mikey Madisn — posted a photo of a private jet to Instagram with the caption, “Get me to God’s country.”
Morgan Wallen’s outburst sparked tons of varying reactions and also became an instant meme format, as it’s been trending on social media in recent days. Seeing an opportunity to make a quick coin, Wallen has begun selling “Get me to God’s country” merch.
During his Saturday Night Live appearance — in which reports also indicate he refused to participate in pre-taped sketch — Wallen perform his songs ‘I’m the Problem’ and ‘Just in Case’.

“I don’t know what goes through people’s minds when they decide to do stuff like that. I don’t know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way… I thought maybe he had to go to the potty or something. It’s definitely a spike in the norm. We’re so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody’s saying, ‘Good job, good job, good job.’ So when there’s a departure from that, it’s like, hmm, I wonder what that’s about?” Thompson told Entertainment Weekly of Wallen’s apparent snub.
“The ‘God’s country’ of it all is strange because it’s like, what are you trying to say? You trying to say that we are not in God’s country? We’re not all in God’s country? We’re not all under God’s umbrella? That’s not necessarily my favorite,” the record-holding SNL vet added.
This weekend, Jack Black will be hosting Saturday Night Live alongside musical guests Elton John and Brandi Carlile.
