Molly Tuttle has announced the August 15 release of her forthcoming solo effort, So Long Little Miss Sunshine, via Nonesuch Records, previewed today by the initial single release, the Kevin Griffin (Better Than Ezra) co-write, “That’s Gonna Leave a Mark.” The impending 12-track collection features 11 original tracks and one cover of Icona Pop and Charli XCX’s “I Love It,” and was introduced today via the pop-focused preview.

So Long Little Miss Sunshine represents Tuttle’s fifth studio effort and first after restructuring her band, a move that was announced in mid-May. During the shift in personnel, the singer, songwriter/guitarist introduced a new all-female ensemble, featuring Ellen Angelico, Mary “Mair” Mulroney, Megan Jane, and Vanessa McGowan. The change effectively ended a four-year stint with Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, Shelby Means, Dominick Leslie, and Kyle Tuttle.

“I’ve been wanting to make this record for such a long time. Part of me was scared to do such a big departure, and that went into the album title,” Tuttle explained. “‘You know what? I’m just not going to care what people think. I’m going to do what I want,” she settled.

The forthcoming record was recorded in Nashville with producer Jay Joyce and is slated to arrive while Tuttle takes part in her highly anticipated summer tour, which will feature the new backing band. The ensuing collection is introduced via the first single, “That’s Gonna Leave a Mark,” which embraces a pop approach by delivering catchy lines set to an upbeat instrumental backing.

Tuttle says, “I wrote ‘That’s Gonna Leave a Mark’ with my friend Kevin Griffin. He has such a brilliant pop sensibility. We reworked it a little bit last year. It’s fun, sort of sassy, and that guitar part is one of my favorites that I play on the record.”

Old Crow Medicine Show’s Ketch Secor had a heavy hand in the set creation, contributing banjo, fiddle, and harmonica, while also serving as a writer. “We spend so much time together, we live together, and anytime I have a song idea, or he has one, it’s just so easy to transition from whatever we’re doing into writing a song,” Tuttle chimed.

In addition to Secor’s assistance, the set was recorded with drummer/percussionist Jay Bellerose and Fred Eltringham, bassist Byron House, and Joyce on varying instruments. Taking stock of her latest chapter, Tuttle reflects, “I like to be a bit of a chameleon with my music. Keep people guessing and keep it full of surprises.”
