Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is one of the most highly-anticipated blockbusters of the year, and based on recent comments from director Christopher McQuarrie, the film is certainly going to live up to the hype. In a recent interview, the Mission: Impossible filmmaker claimed that an audience member nearly had a medical emergency during a screening of the film..
The Mission: Impossible franchise has long been famed for its incredible stunts and set pieces and The Final Reckoning promises to continue that tradition of Tom Cruise risking his life for our entertainment, as the iconic actor, among other things, hung off the side of a retro plane for one of the film’s biggest action sequences.
While it’s unclear if that’s the specific scene that caused the audience member to nearly have a heart attack, McQuarrie’s comments make it clear that Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is going to be one hell of a ride.
“We had a small screening, and someone said, ‘I was suffocating throughout the entire sequence. I almost had a heart attack.’ And I thought, ‘I guess we did something right,” McQuarrie told Empire Magazine.
Given the events of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning and the first teaser for The Final Reckoning, McQuarrie could also be referencing what appears to be an action scene aboard a sinking submarine.
Alongside Cruise, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, and Rolf Saxon. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will be released in movie theaters in the United States on May 23, 2025. You can check out the first official teaser for the film below. All seven of the previous Mission: Impossible movies are currently streaming on Paramount Plus.
