Minnie Driver is heating up Rome in her bikini. In a new social media post, the star, 55, reflects on the recent time she spent in Italy to shoot the hit show Emily in Paris. “I came to Rome, my favourite city in the whole world, to shoot the beloved show, Emily in Paris. I’ve had a few days off and walked for 124 hours or so, I also found the Olympic pool from when Rome hosted the games in 1960 and swam on the first day it opened for the summer season. When I walk around this city, I feel butterflies in my stomach as though I’m in love. It is strange to want to wrap your arms around the Pantheon, but there we are,” she wrote. How does the actress approach diet and fitness? Here are 5 of her top habits.
Driver exercises for both her body and mind. “I do an enormous amount of physical activity: it makes me feel so good and is very much part of my mental health too,” she told Financial Times. Physical activity is anything that gets your body moving. According to the current Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, adults are recommended to engage in 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity and 2 days of muscle-strengthening activities each week.
Minnie also swims. “Every day I swim in the Pacific Ocean. And every day I feel my mum swimming alongside me,” she told Telegraph about how she feels closer to her late mother. She added to Financial Times that her happy place is “By the ocean, with my son.” According to the CDC, swimming is an effective way to incorporate regular aerobic physical activity into your routine. Just two and a half hours per week of aerobic physical activity, such as swimming, bicycling, or running, can decrease the risk of chronic illnesses. In addition to the many physical benefits, multiple studies support the mental health benefits of swimming.
Minnie started her podcast, Minnie Questions with Minnie Driver, because she is such an advocate of talking it out. “My manager suggested I do a podcast because I am always asking questions, always trying to get to the stuff of life and creativity. I loved the interview process, it felt very freeing,” she told Telegraph. “When you go through massive life changes you do start breaking down barriers and connecting in different ways and it all helps. None of us live perfect lives, things happen but we just have to find our way through. I’m finding my way and I’m grateful for anything that helps.”
Minnie has a favorite meal: “Roast chicken, roast potatoes, bread sauce, parsnips, leeks, green beans. Either cooked by myself, my mother or my sister because we all make the best roasts and the best gravy,” she told the Telegraph.
Minnie, who lives in a 2-bedroom cottage on the ocean in Malibu, is an avid surfer. “Riding a wave in the Ocean where I live. She is my other great love. I would do anything to protect her,” she wrote in an Instagram post. According to the Australian government’s Better Health, surfing provides many health benefits, including cardiovascular fitness from paddling, shoulder and back strength, which is also strengthened from the paddling, and leg and core strength. “Once you’re standing up on the board, strong legs and a strong core will keep you up,” they say.
