Netflix on Thursday released the teaser trailer for Marvel veterans the Russo Brothers’ next sprawling tale The Electric State, which stars Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt and a load of robots.
The first look at the pic, which hits the streaming service on March 14, 2025, comes ahead of today’s panel presentation at the now-underway New York Comic Con.
Joe and Anthony Russo teamed with their Avengers scribes Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely for Electric State, an adaptation of Simon Stålenhag’s illustrated novel. It’s set in the retro-futuristic 1990s where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots, who once served peacefully among humans, now live in exile following a failed uprising.
The plot centers on a orphaned teenager (Brown) who traverses the American West with a sweet but mysterious robot named Cosmo and an eccentric smuggler (Pratt) and his robot Herman (Mackie) in search of her younger brother who she thought was dead but appears to be controlling Cosmo. As they venture into the Exclusion Zone, a walled-off corner in the desert where robots now exist on their own, they find new animatronic allies and discover that the forces behind Christopher’s disappearance are more sinister than they ever expected.
The loaded cast also includes Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander and Woody Norman, with Giancarlo Esposito and Stanley Tucci. Mackie, Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Hank Azaria, Colman Domingo and Alan Tudyk voice the robots.
The Russos are producers along with Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Castaldi and Patrick Newall. Executive producers are Markus, McFeely, Stålenhag Tim Connors, Nick van Dyk, Jake Aust, Geoffrey Haley, Jeffrey Ford, Julia Angelin, Russell Ackerman, John Schoenfelder, Anthony Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti.
