Miley Cyrus recently performed a powerhouse rendition of Talking Heads’ 1977 classic “Psycho Killer” during a stripped-down set at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.
No stranger to covers of iconic songs, the pop star began her version of “Psycho Killer” with alternative lyrics before launching into the track’s chorus. Watch a clip of the performance below, followed by the original song.
The live cover comes after it was announced in January that Cyrus will be involved in an upcoming tribute album version of Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense from A24. The 16-track project will see artists including Paramore (who already released their cover of “Burning Down the House”), Lorde, and The National covering songs from the band’s soundtrack to their 1984 concert film, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
The tracklist for Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense has yet to be officially revealed, so it’s currently unknown if Cyrus’ “Psycho Killer” performance was a preview of her contribution to the project.
It’s worth noting that Cyrus and Talking Heads singer David Byrne took the stage together at the top of 2023 during her annual New Year’s Eve special. Together, they performed David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” and Byrne’s own “Everybody’s Coming to My House.”
Cyrus recently released her Pharrell collaboration “Doctor (Work It Out).” In February, she had a big night at the 2024 Grammys, where she gave her first televised performance of “Flowers” and picked up her first Grammy wins for Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year.
This is a redition Miley has made of “Psycho Killer” for the a tribute to Talking Heads’ which will be released soon
