Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Sim Update scheduled to land next week

Microsoft Flight Sim 2024 is now on the final approach for a year out in the wild. November will see the one year anniversary of the follow-up to the hugely successful Flight Simulator 2020 and, while things have not been without their issues, it does all seem to be calming down a little now.

Rumors persist that we may still geta a PS5 announcement of the game around the one year mark, but there is certainly nothing concrete in the skies right now.

Rather, Asobo and Microsoft continue to plough ahead updating things, just as they did, and indeed continue to do so for the 2020 iteration.

Sim Update 3 for 2024 is what we are interested in and the devs have pushed what they hope will be the final couple of betas to testers in the last few days and have next week earmarked for release to players.

Major feature updates in Sim Update 3 include better VRAM usage which is much needed, enhancements to 40 aircraft, better air traffic control (ATC) and avionics updates, along with a ton more.

Lancaster bomber finally arrives in MSFS

Meanwhile, Aeroplane Heaven has finally realised its much vaunted Avro 686 Lancaster Bomber for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The bomber, synonymous with World War 2 and re-popularised recently in the outstanding Masters of Air TV show, this particular version features realistic audio, sveen liveries and has all seven interior stations modelled.

Although designed with FS2020 in mind the plane works in FS2024’s compatibility mode, although the devs say there are currently a few frame-drop issues in busy areas and suggest that you are going to need a new card to get it operating well currently.

The Lancaster runs perfectly fine in FS2024. There is a frame rate drop around busy airports due in part to the size of the textures and just all the gubbins inside. You will need a pretty impressive rig to run it in FS2024 and that means a 40 series Nvidia card at least and a fairly new CPU, RAM wise its as much as you can afford.”
