Michael Stipe and Jason Isbell are set to play a “Get Out the Vote” concert for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s campaign going down in Pittsburgh on Friday, October 4th.
The R.E.M. frontman and Isbell will be joined by a “special guest,” who is yet to be announced. Isbell previously performed at the Democratic National Convention earlier this year, where he played his working class anthem “Something More Than Free” and endorsed Kamala Harris for president.
The “Get Out the Vote” concert in Pittsburgh will be accessible via an RSVP form. Fans looking to attend will be required to RSVP, but it does not guarantee admission; guests who are confirmed will then receive information about the event time and location. Stipe and Isbell are the latest musicians to perform in support of Harris and Walz’s campaign. Bon Iver played at a rally in his native Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Alanis Morissette took the stage at a Harris fundraiser in Los Angeles last weekend, and both P!NK and Stevie Wonder joined Isbell in performing at the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Other artists who’ve thrown their weight behind the Democratic ticket include Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Hayley Williams, and Megan Thee Stallion,
Isbell is no doubt excited to be sharing the stage with Stipe at Friday’s event. He previously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame back in June, where he discussed how impactful the band’s music was to him at an early age, and performed “It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)” alongside them. Isbell also covered R.E.M.’s “Driver 8” for his Georgia Blue charity album in 2021, which he released after Joe Biden won the state of Georgia in the 2020 election.
After the concert on Friday, Isbell will kick off an eight-date residency at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium before heading to Europe for a run of shows. Get tickets to see Jason Isbell here.
