While Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine is highly anticipated for a litany of reasons, one of the foremost is that he’ll be seen wearing the character’s comic-accurate look for the first time since he began playing the part in the year 2000.
The beloved Aussie actor donning Wolverine’s yellow-and-blue suit is apparently so highly anticipated that grown men were sobbing at the sight of Hugh Jackman when he first arrived on set in the get-up.
Since the year 2000, Jackman has played Wolverine nine times — in X-Men, X-2, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, X-Men: First Class (cameo), X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse (cameo), The Wolverine, and the Academy Award-nominated Logan.
“It was one of the craziest things,” executive producer Wendy Jacobson said in an interview HeyUGuys. “It was the camera test. It was before we started shooting. To see both of those guys, first of all, in costume together was just mind-blowing, but Hugh walking out in the yellow and blue, I mean, there were grown men, like, sobbing on set.”
Jacobson’s comments echo what Deadpool franchise star Ryan Reynolds said in an interview with Variety earlier this summer
“I’ve never seen a crew reaction like that,” Reynolds said. “We barely talked about the suit in the early development because it was a no-brainer. You don’t do this character now unless he’s in the suit.”
“As soon as I put [the yellow suit] on, I couldn’t believe I never had before,” Jackman proclaimed.
Alongside Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s seemingly tear-jerking return as Wolverine, Deadpool & Wolverine also stars Emma Corrin, Owen Wilson, Matthew Macfadyen, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Rob Delaney, and Jennifer Garner. There is also set to be a bevy of high-profile cameos that Marvel Studios is keeping under lock and key.
