The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has tapped into her acting skills with a new appearance in an ad for Clevr Coffee. The ad, which features Meghan as an extra in the background, has both been praised and slammed by fans of the royal family.
Meghan has been an investor in the Clevr brand since 2020 and has promoted their products before, even sending a basket to Oprah Winfrey. It’s her first public investment since exiting the royal family with Prince Harry in 2020.
Meghan Markle Stars In Ad For Clevr Coffee
Meghan channeled her acting skills for an Instagram ad for Clevr Coffee, a coffee company she’s an investor in. The former actress posed as an intern in the short clip as CEO Hannah Mendoza walked around the headquarters, thanking the team members for their hardwork throughout the year.
The Duchess of Sussex was shown stacking boxes, making drinks, and using a computer for the coffee shop. At the end of the video, Meghan hilariously failed to fist-bump another team member, which caused everyone in the video to laugh as it ended. The mother of two was shown wearing a grey branded hoodie from the company and black jeans.
Clevr Coffee posted the ad on their Instagram page with the caption, “D—, you’re keeping us BUSY right now! Had to call in some reinforcements. So grateful for the immense love and support this year—thanks for helping us keep the latte-loving dream alive, and thriving! xo.”
Royal Fans Are Split On Meghan Markle’s Coffee Ad Appearance
Royal fans were quick to react to the funny coffee advert, with many praising Meghan for supporting the brand and others criticizing her involvement in the video.
One person wrote, “Always willing to roll up her sleeves and do the work. We love a hardworking duchess.” Another said, “The most hardworking person ever. Extend my love to her.”
A third fan noted, “Wait! the duchess is in all the frames. When I watched [it] last night, I swear I only saw her at the end. I love this so much.” A fourth wrote, “The new hire deserves a raise and bonus and benefits. She is a multitasking Queen. Clearly.”
Amid all the praise, some felt the coffee ad appearance was beneath the Duchess of Sussex.
A person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, “She’s a background extra in a low-budget SOCIAL MEDIA COMMERCIAL…. not even a cable TV commercial. How far she has fallen from royal palaces to internet commercials.”
The Duchess Invested In The Clevr Brand
Meghan first announced her investment in the coffee brand in December 2020 but didn’t disclose the sum. Clevr Coffee has gained popularity for its range of lattes available in powder form for easy mixing and drinking. The company was co-founded by Mendoza in January 2019.
Meghan’s investment into Clevr was her first public investment since she and Prince Harry officially stepped down as senior royals in 2020. At the time of her investment, the duchess also promoted the coffee company on Instagram. She even sent a basket of Clevr’s products to her neighbor and friend, Oprah Winfrey, who posted them on her own page.
The duchess also shared a clip from her visit to the company on Instagram, showing herself sipping on a cup of their coffee. In November, Meghan posted a glowing five-star review of the company and their coffee products. She shared a photo of herself and Mendoza hugging and smiling brightly with the caption, “One of my favourite ways to start and end each day.”
Meghan Markle Is Proud To Support The Founder
Meghan first found out about Clevr when she sampled the brand’s superfood coffee in 2017. She came across it when Mendoza was selling at a pop-up store before she created the powdered blend the company now sells. Clevr’s headquarters is officially based in Santa Barbara, California, near Meghan and Harry’s Montecito home.
In 2019, Meghan made a statement about the investment to Fortune. She said, per Daily Mail, “This investment is in support of a passionate female entrepreneur who prioritizes building community alongside her business. I’m proud to invest in Hannah’s commitment to sourcing ethical ingredients and creating a product that I personally love and has a holistic approach to wellness. I believe in her and I believe in her company.”
Mendoza also spoke about the Duchess’ investment and thanked her for her support and partnership. She said, “Entrepreneurs need funding, but they also need advisers who care deeply about what they are building. I’m grateful to have found both in the Duchess of Sussex.”
