Megan Moroney made her long-awaited return to Athens, Georgia on Friday night when the ‘Am I Okay?’ tour stopped at Akins Ford Arena. It was completely sold out for the hometown girl.
However, the show itself is not what we are here to discuss. She put her true character on display with a kind gesture long after the curtains closed.
Moroney, a Savannah-native, graduated college in 2020 with a marketing degree from the University of Georgia’s Music Business Program. Her song ‘Tennessee Orange’ (which may or may not be about her on-again, off-again relationship with Morgan Wallen and really put her on the map in Nashville) is an ode to her hatred of the Vols as a Bulldog. Black and red runs through her veins.
Thus, it was a huge deal for Moroney to return to Athens as the headliner on her own tour. She will play two nights at the 8,500-capacity arena on Friday and Saturday. Night one was a great success.
Megan Moroney rocked a sparkly Georgia football jersey on stage and obviously had to call the Dawgs. Ain’t nothin’ finer in the land than a drunk obnoxious UGA fan!
A dark royal blue color is the primary color associated with the ‘Am I Okay?‘ record and its tour. Moroney also mixes in some lighter shades of blue and white.
Keeping with the theme, Moroney launches numerous pounds of blue and white confetti into the crowd when she plays the title song of her album while on tour. It’s a lot of confetti!
Megan Moroney had not yet left the arena on Friday night when the maintenance crew went to work on the cleanup. The 27-year-old country music artist noticed their efforts and decided to help!
At first, she grabbed a broom. And then somebody let her on the sweeper. It was a hilarious sequence of events.
Admittedly, I question how much Moroney actually helped to clean up the confetti. The video is hilarious and the arena employees seemed to enjoy the interaction, but I don’t see her making very much progress. It feels like a PR stunt because a real one would’ve picked up a broom without the cameras. And yet, it still worked. Cool move, Megan!
