McDonald’s is testing a huge menu upgrade with more “innovative” drinks

CosMc's drinks

McDonald’s has announced a huge shakeup to its drink menu with more “innovative” items on the horizon.

In late 2023, McDonald’s opened a spin-off chain dubbed CosMc’s with all sorts of beverages and food items more akin to something like Starbucks.

For instance, the chain offered unique drinks such as a S’mores Cold Brew and a Turmeric Spiced Latte, while its sandwich offerings included a Spicy Queso Sandwich.

However, in January 2025, McDonald’s opted to shut down half of its CosMc’s locations, and the remaining stores are set to close by June. That said, while CosMc’s may be going away, McDonald’s has big plans for its standout menu items.

On May 23, the chain announced that CosMc’s was launched as a way to better understand the McDonald’s System – and they learned a lot since then.

“Building on the insights gained from the pilot standalone locations, CosMc’s-inspired flavors will be landing at McDonald’s as part of the upcoming US beverage test, seamlessly blending out of this world tastes into the McDonald’s experience,” they explained.

According to McDonald’s, it plans to “bring more delicious and innovative drinks to more fans” with a new team focused on beverages.

They further stated that CosMc’s allowed them to test “new, bold flavors” without impacting the McDonald’s experience for regular customers and staff.

While CosMc’s will be closing in late June, the plan now is to bring CosMc’s-inspired drinks to hundreds of McDonald’s stores in the US.

It’s not clear yet exactly what drinks will be offered, but for American McDonald’s fans, it’s finally something to look forward to.

Plenty of new menu items have been popping up outside the US lately, with Canadians getting their hands on the Big Arch, while Japanese fans have been supersized with the addition of a limited time ‘Grand’ size fries and drinks.
