The menu at McDonald’s has undergone plenty of changes over the years, and the fast food giant is now gearing up for a fairly unprecedented overhaul now that it’s decided to join forces with Krispy Kreme and welcome its signature donuts to its calorie-laden family.
McDonald’s is just one of the many fast food chains out there that are constantly tinkering with their offerings in an attempt to see what will resonate with consumers. I’d argue there’s no point in messing with the breakfast lineup the company has inarguably perfected, but that hasn’t stopped the folks at the Golden Arches from experimenting every now and then.
In 2015, McDonald’s changed the game by rolling out the All-Day Breakfast that was cruelly taken from us at the start of the pandemic and will seemingly never return. The company attempted to compensate for that discontinuation by adding blueberry muffins, cinnamon rolls, and apple fritters to its McCafe menu, but those baked goods failed to catch on.
Now, The Associated Press reports McDonald’s has decided to take a similar approach with the help of a fairly unexpected partner: Krispy Kreme, the donut behemoth that’s agreed to a partnership that will result in its fried glazed concoctions appearing in Mickey D’s locations later this year.
As things currently stand, it’s unclear how big the pilot program will be or how many McDonald’s locations in the United States will be welcoming Krispy Kreme into the fold when the collaboration kicks into high gear in 2026.
However, the outlet says McDonald’s plans to offer Krispy Kreme’s glazed, chocolate iced, and creme-filled donuts while giving customers the chance to order them individually or in a box of six.
There’s also no telling if McDonald’s plans to pull a KFC by giving diners an option to use those sandwiches as buns, but I guarantee that menu “hack” will take TikTok by storm as soon as it becomes an option.
