Maya Higa’s animal sanctuary cut off by Texas floods as fans and streamers rally to help

Maya Higa’s animal sanctuary has been cut off by flash floods in Texas after heavy rain washed out the only road into the property.

The streamer and wildlife conservationist posted an update on July 6 showing the driveway at Alveus Sanctuary completely destroyed. “Nobody will be able to get in or out until we can rebuild the road,” she said.

The sanctuary, based in central Texas, is home to dozens of non-releasable animals and functions as a virtual education center. Higa confirmed all staff and animals are safe but warned that access to the facility is now impossible until major repairs are made.

Higa launched Alveus in 2021 following a record-breaking charity stream that raised over $500,000. Since then, the non-profit has grown into a sanctuary and livestream hub, featuring animals like foxes, owls, and reptiles.

The flash flooding, which followed days of heavy storms across the region, eroded the only access road and forced the sanctuary to rely on online support. Higa shared links for donations and encouraged fans to support the sanctuary through its 24/7 livestreams.

One of the most high-profile donations came from YouTube star Valkyrae, who gave $10,000 live on stream. Higa reacted with visible shock. Clips of the moment quickly went viral across social media.

Alveus will remain operational online while road repairs are underway, with the sanctuary continuing to educate viewers through its live content.

Higa has not confirmed a timeline for when the road will be rebuilt.
